There were so many things that I loved about Charleston. The food, the atmosphere, the people, but my favorite thing, by far, is the beautiful and colorful houses that make up Historic Downtown Charleston. I have never seen so many brightly colored homes with gorgeous ivy walls and overflowing window boxes in my life. It took so much longer to walk through the city because I was constantly stopping to admire and take pictures.
At the top of anyone’s Charleston To-Do List is Rainbow Row. It’s no secret that this row of pastel homes is a must see. You certainly don’t have to twist my arm to visit something this colorful and happy.
The houses are even more charming in person. Each house was more magnificent than the last. I am obviously partial to the pink ones, but I would happily take any of them. Anyone want to throw a few million my way?!
As I mentioned in this post, I brought mostly dresses for the trip. I knew it would be warm and I wanted to be comfortable during the day. This dress from ASOS (under $75) was originally purchased as an option for the wedding were going to in Pawley’s Island. It’s beautiful blush pink with the prettiest pattern of floral branches and birds. It felt like it was made for a beautiful Southern Day.
Even though I ended up wearing something different for the wedding, I was happy to pull this out when we got to Charleston. I paired the dress with my Mango sandals and my blush cardi for a day of walking around. After a few hours of exploring we decided to enjoy happy hour at The Rooftop at The Vendue Inn and this dress was perfect. The classic day to evening look.
The amount of colorful homes in Charleston is matched only by the amount of homes covered in ivy. It was so wonderful to see everything in this city so well maintained. Everyone takes such pride in their home and it really shows. We would wander off the beaten path and I would point out a home to Brian and tell him that one was my favorite. Only to round the corner and find another house that topped the last.
The city is literally covered in charm. You can spend hours walking around and finding something new. That was our favorite thing to do. We would set out every day in search of a new neighborhood to explore. King Street and Meeting Street close to South Battery Street were our favorite places to roam. The side streets are almost deserted aside from the occasional horse and carriage that pass by.
I fell in love with the city through the architecture. It is so rich in history and has maintained its authenticity throughout the years. I can’t wait to go back and explore more of beautiful Charleston!
