Summer Stay-cations

With summer just around the corner I am excited to start planning our adventures. There is just something in the air when the temperatures start rising that makes me anxious to get out and explore. While I love planning weekend get-a-ways, there really is no place like home. The “stay-cation” has become so much more popular lately as people start to realize you don’t have to spend a lot of money to feel like you’ve gotten away! Hubby and I have both been super busy lately so to give ourselves a breather we planned a mini stay-cation this past weekend.

When I think of my ideal vacation I picture sleeping in, having breakfast in bed and spending the morning relaxing. When I am home and in my routine, I am an early riser so to be able to lay in bed and enjoy the sunshine coming in through the windows knowing there is nowhere I need to be is a lovely feeling. On this particular day, we woke up leisurely made our coffee and tea and crawled back into bed to catch up on our reading. I love catching up on my favorite blogs in the morning. I don’t always have time during the week so on the weekends I can spend hours. It’s such an inspiring way to start the day!

No staycation is complete without luxurious bedding. I am currently on the hunt for new bedding (notice the plain white comforter). You know that feeling of waking up in a hotel room with crisp, clean sheets and a comforter that feels like clouds? That’s what I am looking for. In my search I came across Crane & Canopy. Their Nova collection is what I have my eyes on because it is so easy to clean! I admit that I let my German Shepherd, Bear, onto my bed more than I should. I love our morning cuddles and want to be able to continue that!

As the morning sun started to move over head we decided it was time to get out of bed and go and explore. When the hubs and I travel we prefer to walk everywhere and find places to stop along the way with only a few destinations in mind (you can see more of how we plan our travels in this post). It is the same for our stay-cation planning. We live in the Dallas-Fort Worth suburbs and typically go into Downtown Dallas when we are itching for city life. This week we decided that we have left so much of Fort Worth undiscovered!

We drove down to Sundance Square mid afternoon with nothing in mind but to wander the streets. This is my favorite way to see a city. I think when you “get lost” you find some of the best and most unexpected places. Right off the square we saw a restaurant called Bird Café and decided it was the perfect spot for a glass of Rosé. It was mid-afternoon so there was no one in the restaurant which gave us first pick of the tables out on the patio overlooking Sundance Square. I love going to restaurants at off-peak hours and ordering a glass of wine and hors d’oeuvres. We sat there for a couple of hours sampling everything and people watching. It really is amazing how a different perspective can transport you miles away. I have lived near Fort Worth my whole life but I felt like I was seeing it for the first time.

I always go for skirts or dresses when I know we will be walking all day. They are the most comfortable way to dress when I am sightseeing but I still feel like I can slip into a nicer restaurant if we spot one. This denim button up skirt is one of my favorites this season. I kept the look casual with my sandals and basic white tee.

My Cuyana crossbody is the perfect bag for sightseeing. It’s feels weightless on my shoulders so I don’t get tired or sore after wearing it all day. To top everything off, I added this silk scarf for a touch of color. I have been wanting to try this trend for a while now and felt like my weekend adventure was the perfect excuse to get out of my comfort zone. Turns out… I love it! It’s such a fun addition to my outfit.

After a few hours the clouds rolling in started to look a little threatening, so we decided to make our way back to the car and head home. We might have stopped in to The Cheesecake Factory on the way to the car for a slice to go. It is such a nice feeling to be able to come back after a beautiful day to all of the comforts of our own home.

Do you have any stay-cations planned this summer? If not, I hope this post inspires you to plan a fun weekend for yourself. Here are some ideas to think about:

  1. Spend the day in bed catching up on your favorite TV shows or a great book
  2. At home spa day complete with bubble bath
  3. Take a visit to your local botanical gardens
  4. Explore a nearby city
  5. Visit a winery for a tasting
  6. Enjoy high tea at a local hotel
  7. Sunbathe at a community pool or lake
  8. Shop your local farmers market and spend the afternoon pretending you’re on the Food Network
  9. Pack a picnic and spend the afternoon at the park
  10. Get your thrills on at a theme park

Let me know what you’re planning this summer! Happy Wednesday! xo Bryn

Your staycation looks so glamorous, love it! Dallas looks so pretty. I love restaurants and outdoors patios. Savannah has a lot of cute little restaurants and coffee shops with patios. They’re just so fun! I’m still in the process of trying all the coffee shops Savannah has to offer.
