Spring Cleaning

I’ve spent the past couple of weekends really cleaning out my house. Everything from the pantry to my closet. I donated bags that were stuffed with clothes and shoes. I threw out so many half used beauty products (more on that here). There were also several trips to re-sale shops. It felt so amazing to get rid of so much. But I have to admit it also made me think about how much “stuff” I have. I clean out pretty regularly but this was definitely the biggest overhaul I’ve made since we moved into our house.

I don’t consider myself a shopaholic instead I feel like I hoard clothes. I’ll hang on to something for years with the thought that I’ll need it one day. Or that it might eventually fit again. Whatever the excuse may be. This time I let all of those excuses go. I only kept the things that truly fit, are in good shape, and that I enjoy wearing. What’s the point of having a closet full of clothes if there are only a few things that you feel great in!?

After getting rid of what feels like half of my closet I felt re-inspired by the clothes that were left behind. I have to admit that I struggle with the amount of consumerism that exists in our world. And trust me, I know I’m part of it. But we all buy these pieces saying “I’ll get so much wear out of this!” And then it hangs in our closet. So I decided to try to not shop for the next month. Instead I am going to shop my closet, and re-style the clothes I already have.

It all started with this duster that I’ve had for a while but have only worn a handful of times. I love the color and how it flows. Wearing the duster over a white tee and jeans makes for an easy spring look. You can see how I’ve styled it before here and here.

If I’m honest most of my shopping really comes from a feeling that I must have something new for my blog. There is so much pressure to post the newest pieces to hit the stores. But no one really lives like that. We all really just buy the things we love and wear them again.

I won’t say that I’m not going to buy anything in the month of March, but I’m letting go of the need for something new all of the time. Instead I’m excited about falling in love with my own clothes again. Have you ever given up shopping for a period of time? I’ll let you know how I do! xo Bryn

I totally agree with this! I feel the same pressure but honestly my best blog posts aren’t the ones I’m wearing the latest outfit. Love this look and am totally feeling these lightweight flowy jackets for spring!

I can completely relate to this. A lot of my shopping stems from feeling the need to have new things for my blog as well. This year I am really trying to step back from shopping and stick to basics and versatile pieces that I can wear repeatedly just styled in different ways. Its definitely helping me to be a bit more creative with how I put outfits together!

This jacket is ahhhmazing and you look CHIC AF in it Bryn! The simple white tee & jeans is just so perfect with the pink. Also, so impressed with your spring cleaning – I need to get on that and I don’t have a small apartment to spring clean 🙈

Your post is so timely!! I have been thinking that I need to get rid of those things that I know I’ll never wear-and it could literally be half of my closet! I think it would be life changing, in a good way! I want to ‘shop my closet’ too! You’ve inspired me, as always!

Unfortunately, I’m both a shopaholic and a hoarder! I’m trying to simplify my wardrobe, yet I’m still finding excuses to make new purchases. Loved this post and this look, Bryn! xx
