Stamford and The English Countryside

As I mentioned in Monday’s post, Brian and I quickly fell in love with the English Countryside. The scenery is breathtaking, all of the architecture is quaint and the people are the friendliest I have ever met! While staying at Hambleton Hall, we had heard recommendations from several people that the neighboring town of Stamford was worth a visit. After a morning spent enjoying Hambleton, we took a cab over to the beautiful town of Stamford.

Stamford is a picturesque town that has been the backdrop for many period films. It is also home to Burghley House which was high on my list of places to visit. This property is impressive to say the least. The gardens are beautiful as is the house, but I fell most in love with the grounds. The perfectly manicured lawns and clean, fresh air. Brian and I spent most of the afternoon just walking around enjoying the beautiful day. We elected not to tour the house since we are more partial to gardens, but it would be worth a visit!

Burghley House has also been used in movies like the 2005 version of Pride & Prejudice. I kept telling Brian I am living my best Elizabeth Bennet life, he just laughed and rolled his eyes. It’s so easy to get caught up in the beauty of places like this. I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with the property in the way that I did. It ended up being one of my favorite days from our entire trip.

After we had seen as much as we wanted to of the Burghley property, we walked the couple of miles back into Stamford. Stamford is known by the locals as being the prettiest town in Lincolnshire. I can see why! I would have loved to have spent more time wandering around the streets, but we happened to visit on a day that the town was hosting a festival. The population had doubled for the festival and the streets were filled with vendor booths.

We strolled through a few of the booths, but ultimately decided to head back to Hambleton Hall for tea on the patio. Tea time became very serious for us while we were in England. I still find myself wanting an afternoon cup of tea now that I am back home. xo Bryn
