A Day in Paris

Ah, Paris. It’s one of those cities that when you fall in love with her she becomes a part of you. My first time to Paris was when I was eight or nine and my parents and I went for Christmas. I can still remember walking down the River Seine to Notre-Dame and seeing it in all of it’s Christmas glory. Since then I have returned a couple of times, most notably our honeymoon in 2014. Luckily for me Brian fell just as in love with Paris as I am. It’s become such a special place for both of us.

When we were talking about our trip to London, I knew I couldn’t be so close to my beloved Paris and not visit. So when Brian asked me what I wanted for my birthday (which is in September – the month we were traveling) I said – Paris! It is such an easy trip from London to Paris on the EuroStar. So on Wednesday morning we woke up before the sun and made our way to St. Pancras Station. After a couple of hours we arrived in sunny Paris. I admit that I teared up in the cab ride from the station. Seeing the streets of Paris again made me emotional in the best way.

We took a cab from Gare du Nord Station to the Eiffel Tower. It was the most beautiful morning in Paris and I knew this is where I wanted to start our day. Before we left for our trip I had been very thorough in planning our Paris itinerary. With only 12 hours to see the city I wanted to maximize our time. There were a few old favorites we wanted to see along with a few new places, but you can’t go to Paris without first stopping to see the Iron Lady. Our driver dropped us off at number 12 Avenue de la Bourdonnais where you can get this beautiful shot (see larger image below).

After enjoying Place du Trocadér and the views of the Eiffel Tower, we wandered through the quiet streets over to Rue Cler. I had heard about this charming cobblestone street and knew it would be the perfect place to grab lunch at a cafe and enjoy a little people-watching. We enjoyed the most amazing truffle pasta at Le Tribeca and the friendliest staff!

Next we made our way to arguably the most beautiful bridge in Paris – Pont Alexandre III. To follow our route see the map embedded at the end of this post or via this link. This is one of my favorite views along the Seine. And from there over to the Tuileries Gardens. On our honeymoon, we spent many hours in these gardens so to be able to come back and see the gardens full of fall colors was amazing.

Just as we arrived at the Louve the sky turned grey and cloudy making it feel like fall. We rested in the gardens for a while. Taking in all of the beauty and reminiscing of our honeymoon. I could have stayed there all day but I knew there was still so much more to see.
