September Style With Old Navy

September is here with the crisp early mornings and the occasional slow flutter of a leaf falling. September always signals a fresh start to me. It was the “back to school” mode for so many years of my life. It’s the beginning of the fall season. It’s also the month of my birthday so it marks the start of a new year. September is a month I look forward to for all of these reasons. It is also when I start to really notice the transition from summer to fall. The change is reflected in the amount of clothing I wear, but more importantly the style of clothing.

In the fall my style flirts a little more with the preppier side. I think it comes from the association of fall with the foliage of New England. So I love to pull inspiration from the more classic style associated with that region. Think Oxford shirts, gingham, pleats and cozy knits. While we are still transitioning from summer to fall you will mostly see me layering my summer dresses with a sweater. I love the mix of texture with a light cotton dress and a knit sweater.

This dress is the definition of an easy, everyday dress. It’s light, airy and perfect for so many occasions. I wore it over the weekend to my birthday brunch. I layered the cozy sweater and paired my canvas sneakers with it for more casual, weekend vibes. I’ve been loving the sneaker trend lately. I’ve found a few pairs that I love wearing with dresses, skirts and cropped jeans. The navy is an easy choice for fall since they pair so well with denim.

Old Navy has some of my favorite preppy-inspired styles available right now. Like this stripe tunic, a great stripe sweater and this darling polka-dot dress. I also love the canvas sneakers in white for a classic look.

This mustard yellow tote makes me so excited for fall. I love yellow year round (evidence of that here, here and here). But there is something about fall that screams mustard. I’ll chalk it up to the fall foliage again, but I love the richness it brings to a neutral outfit. The bag also comes with a detachable matching wristlet.
