Fall Must Haves: Back to Basics

I’m continuing my theme from Monday’s Nordstrom Anniversary Fall Wardrobe Staples with today’s post. The Nordstrom Anniversary sale is the perfect excuse to pick up fall’s hottest items on sale. As I mentioned in my previous post, I don’t go crazy when shopping the sale. I use it as an opportunity to replenish my closet with pieces that I know I will get a lot of use out of. So today I’m taking it back to the basics with some of my favorite fall must haves.

Fall clothing is my favorite because I love cozy knits, layers and neutral colors. It’s definitely “my season” when it comes to fashion. I start reaching for my lighter fall pieces in September, even though it’s still hot in Texas. I just can’t fight the urge that long, so I opt for transitional pieces that I can wear now and later.

The Duster

In Monday’s post I shared my favorite long cardigans, it’s one of my top fall must haves so I am including it again. I have so many versions of the duster from a thick black sweater to a light weight neutral like this one. I wear them with everything! They are even great with shorts and a tee in the summer. I don’t handle air conditioning well so sweaters are a year round thing for me.

The Classic White Tee

I can never have enough white tees. They are by far the best basic. I wear them with my jeans for a classic, casual look or I pair them with skirts for a little more glam. I like to stock up on a couple different white tee styles at the beginning of each season. My fall must have style is a crew neck that I will be able to layer.

The Jogger Pant

Jogger pants are one of my favorite styles. I’m always looking for different style pants to add to my work rotation. For someone with an hourglass figure a jogger pant that fits well is very flattering. They are also great for people with less curves because they create an illusion of wider hips and a small waist. They can be casual or can be dressed up with a great pair of heels.

The Saddle Bag

While I am more of a tote person, there are many times that I want a “less fuss” bag. A saddle bag is my favorite crossbody style because it’s still large enough to hold everything but it’s a sleek style that doesn’t get in the way. I try to go for a neutral color that will carry me through the year.

The Oxford Shoe

The Oxford shoe might just be my favorite shoe style this fall. I’ve already bought a couple of styles. They are so comfortable and I love that they have a slightly edgy look. I have had this white pair for a few years but there is an almost identical style part of the Nordstrom sale, in nude or black. I’ve also scooped up these crushed velvet.

  6. I honestly can’t believe summer is almost over! I love fall though, just how it’s not too cold yet and you can bring out your comfiest sweaters! The duster is such a staple and always makes a simple outfit look so much more elegant! Any tips on finding the perfect Oxford shoe? xx

I agree, not too cold but enough to wear cozy sweaters! Yes, oxfords can be tricky. I like to look for pairs that have a slight heel like the ones in this post so my legs don’t look squaty (short leg problems). Or I look for a pair that has a very low profile that hits below my ankle bone. I want a shoe that doesn’t look too masculine. Starting with a nude or neutral color is a good start too. Black can be harsh sometimes, if you aren’t used to wearing that style of shoe! xo Bryn
