It’s almost impossible to hear “New Orleans” and not imagine a vibrant city full of color and excitement. Since it is my first trip to this charming city, all of the major tourist spots were at the top of my “must see” list. The French Quarter is quite a contrast from the quiet streets of the Garden District. Definitely more what you think of when you picture New Orleans.

We hopped across Canal Street from our hotel, The Roosevelt, and headed down Royal. Bourbon Street is currently under some much-needed renovations which made the street a little too treacherous. Royal is lined with cute shops and restaurants with delicious scents that call you inside.

We made our way to Brennan’s for happy hour. I knew I wanted to make a stop here when I saw how perfectly pink it was. We enjoyed our afternoon cocktail and the air conditioning before venturing back out into the French Quarter.

I was so in love with all of the old buildings with their brightly painted shutters. One of our Uber drivers mentioned that there has been a big push lately to try to update Downtown New Orleans because this generation likes “new.” It’s true I love the convenience of new, but there is such a lack of charm in buildings today. Age is just something you can’t replicate.

Cafe du Monde was a must! It was included on every list from people who sent in recommendations. And you never have to twist my arm to try something sweet. We walked right in and found a table in the corner. Just a few minutes later we were full and happily covered in powdered sugar.

Right before we left for New Orleans, I picked up this skirt. I always love pleated skirts, and this vibrant print instantly made me think of New Orleans. I don’t always go for bold prints but I was inspired by the colorful city to branch out. It’s now one of my favorite skirts! It was perfect for walking around on a sunny and humid day.

After dinner and a quick refresh at the hotel, we braved Bourbon Street with a few friends. Since it was the middle of the week it wasn’t overly crowded which I loved. We ducked into a couple of bars and enjoyed the live music. My favorite was “The Swamp” where we took over the balcony for some good people watching.
