Before I get into today’s post I have to start out with something a little more personal. Last week Brian (my husband – if this is your first time stopping by) and I went to see Deepwater Horizon. This movie is based on the BP oil spill that happened in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. It was a disaster that was hard for the world to watch but this particular story really hits home for me. Brian works for the company that owns the rig that this movie is based on. He works on another Deepwater vessel. When people ask me what he does it can be hard to answer. Every month I drop him off at the airport and watch him walk away not knowing what his life looks like on the other side. I knew watching this movie would be one of the hardest things, but I felt like it was important. We all pull up to the gas station to fill up our cars and we don’t think about where that gas comes from.
People who work in the oil industry can have a lot of things said about them, mostly negative, but what most people don’t think about is the dangerous conditions they are faced with. I am always extremely proud of Brian and how incredibly hard he works. We spend about half of the year apart from each other while he works out there and I worry about him like anyone else would. So, it makes me really savor the time that he is home and we get to be a family.
The beautiful part of his schedule is that he has equal time off. For example, if he is gone for four weeks, he’s home for the same amount of time. We always try to make the most of it when he is here. Our trip to Charleston was amazing, but we also love to just be home together. The fall weather has been so beautiful that you can’t help but want to be out and about enjoying it.
Over the weekend we decided to take our fur baby, Bear, for some much-needed exercise at the lake. Bear just turned two last week and he is the best dog, but man – can he drive me crazy if he isn’t stimulated! We try to find ways to wear him out that are fun for us too. As you have seen, I am always up for catching a sunset and just hanging out with my hubby. So we packed up the car Saturday evening and headed to lake.
The weather was in the mid 70s so I threw on this amazingly comfortable dress from XOmandysue Boutique. You have to check out their selection! This boutique is based in Newport Beach, CA and all of their clothes have such an effortless vibe. I would classify this as the perfect weekend dress. Easy, comfortable and cute. Since I have to dress up more during the week I am all about comfort on the weekends.
I can’t believe how quickly this weekend flew by! Brian will be heading out to sea again soon so I am always grateful for sweet weekend moments like these. Have you seen Deepwater Horizon? As much as I cried I thoroughly enjoyed the movie – they did a fantastic job! I also have a slight girl crush on Kate Hudson. Thank you for stopping by! I hope you have a great week! xo Bryn

I bet it is hard seeing Brian leave for work! I wish there was a way to make working conditions safer. So glad to hear he has equal time off! And that sunset is so stunning!!

Thank you so so much Rach! I wish there were better conditions but I know that they all watch each other’s back and know they all want to stay safe so that is comforting! xo Bryn
What sweet weekend time! The views are extraordinary. And what a great reminder to be thankful for the things that we often forge to be thankful for – like gas. Thanks to your man for his incredible work!

Thanks for sharing your story…I’m sure the movie took on a whole different meaning. I think you are so right. We all just fill up at the pump and have no idea where the gas came from.
Such pretty pictures, what a beautiful sunset!

please tell your hubby THANK YOU for his hard work!! You are a strong lady to send him off! I haven’t seen the movie but I’m sure it tugged at your heart and hit close to home. Gorgeous pics and looks like you 3 had a lovely weekend ❤️
Thank YOU Mary!! I appreciate that so much! It was so hard to watch but worth it! xo Bryn
Thanks for sharing this story, Bryn! It must be so hard seeing him leave not knowing what could happen out there. But what joy you must feel when he comes home to you after being away for so long! P.S. Cute dress!

Thank you so much Chantelle!! It is always hard but there’s nothing more exciting than him coming home! xo Bryn
Absolutely adore this! I had no idea he was gone so often, but I’m sure it makes the time together all the sweeter. Caleb and I did long distance our entire dating relationship {literally until the day we were married} and learned being apart made us be so much more intentional in our conversations and in our time together. Just lifted you both up in prayer!
Also, these photos and that dress are GORGEOUS!

Wow, that’s amazing, girlie. I’m sure it gave you a better idea for what Brian faces, which as wives is super important for us to be a good, solid support system for them. These photos are absolutely gorgeous and I’m glad you both were able to spend quality time together. Thanks so much for sharing and I hope you have a great week ahead, girlie!

Firstly. loved your photos 😉 Secondly, I hadn’t really though a lot about the people working to get our fuel, lately but I know my dad worked on some oil rigs when he was very young and said it was a very tough job. Obviously the other tough part is for those waiting at home like yourself.
