Fall Wardrobe Staples You Need To Invest In

With September just days away, it’s time to start pulling out a few of my favorite fall wardrobe staples. When pre-fall rolls around I start going through my closet and assessing what I need for the cooler weather approaching. Fall is my favorite time of year for fashion. You can create such great outfits by layering, but it is not too cold yet that you have to cover everything up with your coat.

In Texas we don’t have much of a gradual descent into fall, it’s mostly just hot until one day the temperature drops. The cooler weather can definitely sneak up on me if I’m not careful. By the time the crisp, Autumn weather rolls in all of the fall styles are sold out or Holiday has arrived. So I try to start early (ahem, August) to make sure my wardrobe is well stocked for fall.

There are a few pieces that I consider fall wardrobe staples and those require being refreshed every season since I wear them out. My first investment is a classic blazer. I’ve talked about this nautical navy style in this post, and still consider it one of the best additions I’ve made to my closet. A blazer is a perfect way to keep warm on those crisp fall days. It also adds a touch of refinement to any look.

Another fall wardrobe staple is a button up shirt. September to November is really the only time of year that I wear button up shirts. To me they just feel best in the fall with a light sweater or with a blazer like I styled here. This popover shirt is so soft and comfortable, which I love since so many button ups can feel stiff. I love the gingham pattern, too. Gingham is one trend from summer that I am so happy to see continuing into fall. The emerald-green color (last seen here) is also a fall must have!

One item you can’t go without this fall is booties! I am a total boot girl. I wear them every day and have to replace them each season. This pair is a #nsale find and I am very happy with them! The cognac color is versatile and the chunky heel is perfectly on trend. They are extremely comfortable for being a higher heel so I know I will be able to wear them all day. Another style of boots every woman needs this fall is a great pair of over the knee boots. Pairing your summer dresses and skirts with OTK boots is a great way to transition between seasons.

  3. Yay for fall!!! Adore your blazer! We’ve been in the 80’s in NYC {except for today with a 92 high} and I am just itching for the 70 degree weather days. And I am right there with you- I wear out my boots each season… Bitter sweet I suppose 😉 So so so excited for fall!!!
