The Art of Fashion

It may be fall in the stores but it is definitely still summer outside! We had a really hot weekend here in Texas, so hubby and I were looking for any excuse to stay inside. We decided to head down to the Dallas Museum of Art for an air-conditioned afternoon spent wandering the exhibits. Even though we have both been multiple times I felt like I was seeing everything for the first time!

There are so many amazing pieces that I have never noticed, including paintings by my favorite artist, Claude Monet. For our honeymoon a couple of summers ago, we made a day trip out to Giverny from Paris, to visit Monet’s home and the gardens filled with the famous water lilies. I could spend hours looking at his paintings, there is something so calming and restful about his style.

I am a firm believer that art and fashion go hand in hand. From the vibrant colors in the European oil paintings of women draped in silks, to the ancient Egyptians covered in their statement jewels… you can’t help but be inspired! Art gives you a new perspective of something you might see everyday. It teaches us to look at things differently – sometimes as the artist saw it or maybe as the artist wants us to see it. Fashion is the same way. We pull pieces together in unique ways to create our own look.

When I am shopping I try to think about all of the ways I can style the piece I am considering buying. If I can only think of one outfit, then I don’t find it worth my investment because the item hasn’t inspired me to get creative. If I can see it styled multiple ways, then I know it’s a great piece. This LBD is one of those pieces. I don’t think you can ever go wrong with a black dress, but for me there has to be something special about it. The intricate lace details on the sleeves and skirt are what made me fall in love. It adds a soft romantic feel against the heavy pleated skirt.

It felt feminine and chic, but still comfortable. I can easily throw on a pair of heels and take this dress out for a night on the town. That’s what makes it such a great piece!

What are some ways that you keep your creative juices flowing? Hope you have a wonderful Monday and thank you for reading! xo Bryn

Those colorful stripes are the perfect backdrop! You look lovely, Bryn. I agree — style and fashion are definitely forms of, and inspired by, art. I tend to fall in love with a piece and all of its details, then figure out how to style it with the rest of my wardrobe. If I love everything about it and can’t stop thinking about it, then I know I have to pick it up!
