When I think of classic American sportswear, I think of navy, red and white stripes and pieces that will never go out of style. In the late 80’s and 90’s designers like Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Calvin Klein made a mark on American fashion by designing wearable separates for women in casual but luxurious styles. With fall collections hitting the stores, I am so excited to see these preppy styles coming back.
America is known for its classic, nautical styles. We have perfected the “just off the yacht” look over the years making it a fashion go-to! I love mixing nautical with prep-school pieces like this striped, wrap skirt. The skirt is sleek and sexy, but still classic. The wrap skirt is so flattering because it defines your waist and the vertical stripes elongate your legs. I also love this mini version.
As you have seen in my recent posts (here and here) I have been loving the assortment of blazers available for the coming season. This navy blazer has been in stores for a while and has recently been marked down! The double-breasted gold buttons are my favorite details. They stand out beautifully against the dark navy.
It’s always fun to add a touch of “borrowed from the boys” to a feminine look. A blazer over a skirt or dress is an easy way to balance out the femininity but still keeps the look tailored and chic. Another way to incorporate the prep-school vibe into your fall wardrobe is adding a great varsity bomber jacket. I am currently lusting over this navy and white version from Gap.
For me you can never go wrong with classic sportswear pieces, for work or play. Investing in tailored, preppy styles that will always be part of American fashion are worth a splurge. You can keep the look “on trend” by changing the accessories like I did with my tortoise shell sunnies and my Valentino Rockstud bag.
Banana Republic is killing it this year with their Fall collection. I also love these amazing stripe pants, this top and this cinched waist dress. What are some of your favorite Fall forecasts? Thank you so much for stopping by! xo Bryn
