Weekend in San Diego

You will never have to twist my arm when it comes to travel. I am always up for going somewhere new or revisiting an old favorite. I love finding excuses to jet away for a weekend so when hubby had a couple of weeks work in San Diego I knew I would be flying out to join him over the weekend. And let me tell you San Diego did not disappoint. It has been years since I have been to Cali so I couldn’t wait to escape the Texas heat for the beautiful West Coast weather. I stepped one foot out of the airport braced for the heat but instead I was greeted by a fresh, cool breeze and the sight of palm trees. This is what I came for.

I arrived ready to hit the ground running. Since I only had a couple of days to spare I wanted to cram as much into one visit as I could. Our first stop was Downtown San Diego, specifically the Gaslamp Quarter. We had several recommendations from friends that this was a place we couldn’t miss. I zeroed in on the Ghirardelli shop right away since it was a little early in the day for a drink at one of the local bars. With cone in hand we walked down the rows of shops and restaurants until we reached the edge of the city.

We followed the path along the marina taking in all of the sights. I love reading the names on the boats and imagining all of the fabulous people who have been aboard. Does it get more glamorous than yachting? I don’t think so.

I lived in this J.Crew dress the entire weekend. Really! It just ended up being the best piece for the weekend. The linen gingham was cool and flowed with the breeze. The midi length was perfect for walking around but still nice for dinner. Also, I just adore a classic gingham.

I started out my trip wearing my favorite Steve Madden sandals but in the essence of full disclosure I will tell you by the end of the day the bottoms of my feet were covered in blisters. Ouch! While sometimes sacrifices must be made in the name of fashion, my sandals were exchanged for flip-flops as soon as I could find a shoe shop. Comfort will always be my top priority while traveling. I want to see as much as possible so cute but practical shoes are a must. Next time I’ll stick with my loafers!

After our downtown exploration, we headed across the bridge to Coronado Island. It’s a quick hop across the bay from the marina we were just enjoying, but it has a completely different feel. The streets are lined with the most amazingly charming homes, each one more picturesque than the next. I couldn’t contain my excitement every time we passed a home covered in Bougainvillea. It’s everywhere in the area and I never got tired of it.

The weekend was spent with good food, great company and lot’s of beach time (which I’ll be sharing more of later this week). It was truly a California dream.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Thank you so much for stopping by! xo Bryn
